Girls who dress to court

2010年1月28日

Byline: ALEXANDRA SHULMAN

I COULD be telling you what you will be wearing in the autumn, but theidea of looking that far ahead is too depressing.

Silver Brooch

We haven't yet had summer, so I'm not prepared to fling myself into the newseason.

But there was a marvellous picture of the women participants in Max Mosley'sextracurricular sex life walking into court this week, which will give you ataster of one of the key looks S& M.

High black stiletto heels, seamed stockings, tight black suitsthe women presented themselves in the most spectacularly predictable kit, thekey components of which will be in a store near you soon.

Courtroom attire is a fascinating subject. A choice of heel or handbag willoften Silver Set be the image one carries away from a high-profile trial.

Remember how impenitent Martha Stewart was regarded when she carried her [pounds sterling]4,000Hermes Birkin bag into court when accused of financial misdealing a few yearsago? How chic and sexy Tamara Mellon appeared when she gave evidence againsther ex-husband (never one to miss an opportunity to PR her Jimmy Choo empire)? How tough Fiona

Shackleton looked with her battle-helmet hair as she went in to represent SirPaul McCartney in his recent divorce battle.

Max Mosley's witnesses were obviously keen to give the message that they didn'tgive a fig about his behaviour, otherwise they would have draped themselves insober long skirts, flat pumps and high-necked blouses..

Getting it off my chest..

2010年1月28日

I AM deeply suspicious of women who make a big deal out of breastfeeding in public. You know the ones. They're usually kitted out in Fair Isle jumpers, hairbands, leggings, open-toed sandals and carrying a knitted handbag.

And while I have absolutely no objection to mothers doing it discreetly, I DO object to those women who, in an effort to ram their motherhood status down the throats of the rest of us, think it's perfectly acceptable to whip out their humungous blue-veined breasts wherever they choose - whether it be in a restaurant, a bank, a business meeting or the office.

LED Light Bulb MR16-3W

These people regard anyone who disagrees with them as either misogynists, enemies of Mother Nature or Burberry Replica just psychologically stunted. Which brings me to Stella Onions, who as part of a demo to mark Breastfeeding Awareness week last week sat on the steps of 10 Downing Street and breastfed her 21-month-old son Jack.

Now just why Jack is still on the breast at nearly two says more about Stella than it does about the issue. However, why did she have to do it there even though a very polite armed policeman guarding the door asked
embroidered patches her not to.

"I was humiliated," says Stella. "Anyway, it's a mother's right to breastfeed."

Er, no it isn't - not when it's on the PM's doorstep. It's tacky, it's in bad taste, it's a potential security risk and it was designed purely to shock and to get maximum publicity.

While some mothers may feel it's their right to breastfeed wherever they choose, it is my right not to have to watch women like Stella Onions whip out their thruppennies while I'm having my lunch.
